Setting up the EOS

I'm getting our new board ready for our ETC training session this week. In parts bag #1 for the console, besides the manual, there are three plates that attach to the face of the EOS but no info regarding how they install or if there's an order to it. Or should I just wait for the trainer before dealing with this?

  • There's a little section in the manual which says the following:

    Installing Button Modules
Should you desire to use the button modules over your direct selects, follow the instructions below
to install them. It is recommended that you install the button modules with the console power off.
Step 1: Place the left end of a button module in place over touchscreen area 1, 2, or 3. Align
the corner of the button module with the corner of the recessed touchscreen area.
Step 2: Lay the right end of the button module in place and gently press until it is flush with
the front of the console. The direct selects will automatically appear once it is installed
and the console is powered up.
Step 3: To remove the module, slide the release latch (located to the right of the respective
module) upwards and pull the module out from right to left.

The modules are interchangeable and have no specific order.

You will probably find that your Eos has shipped with blanking plates over the connections on the right of the screens. Just slide the latch to pop these off first.

Just for reference, many people prefer to use the button modules on the left hand screen only, keeping a bit of screen real estate on the right hand side free for Virtual Controls, Colour Picker, or anything else you may wish to put there. Entirely up to you depending on your needs. You don't have to use the overlays at all if you don't want to. I'm sure your trainer will explain all...

    Hope that helps.

  • Thanks. By your response, it seems that the plates in bag 1 are actually the blanking plates, as my EOS shipped without them installed.

Now on to my next fun, configuring my gateway so that I'm ready for the training session.

My theatre was built in 1973 and what little that has been upgraded thru the years has been jerry-rigged. With the upgrades happening in the next two years to bring us into this century, the plan is to put in NET3 throughout the theatre. Until then, I run dmx up and over the catwalk between backstage & the booth or down thru the plenum to the FOH position.

I'm excited to have gotten the EOS, as this is only the second board upgrade since the building opened. I've been running an Obsession 1500 that I've babied. Down to one processor as of November.

Now if I could just get my dimmers upgraded. Out with the Colortran Dimension 192's and get Sensor racks. Hard to get the government to understand it all works together and it's better to upgrade all at once than piecemeal as we're still doing.
