Ion not booting

Hi All,

So I have just done a panto here in London on my Ion and all went except for the morning I arrived at the venue hit the power button on the front of the Ion and it would not boot up and was making a very disturbing beeping noise.

So after a few more goes it still wouldn't boot. By now a mild panic is starting to kick in!!!

I then realise that someone had moved the intercom headset so it was resting on the external keyboard. As soon as I took it off it booted no problem.

Is there any way of disabling the external keyboard until the shell has booted?

I know its not going to be a major priority but when you getting close to show time and the desk isn't booting anything that can be done to avoid this situation will stop me ageing a decade in 10 mins.

Overall I'm very happy with the Ion and love having the wireless Client!!!

I had a similar problem on Boxing Day with the stage manager's ClearCom headset sitting on the mouse. The problem is easy to fix once you know it is happening, but ETC hides the BIOS boot information so you are not aware you even have a keyboard/mouse error.

I'm having a number of increasing occurrences of my Ion not booting up on the first try ... or the second ..

this morning it took me 6 attempts to boot up . .

that included turning off the power ..

removing the USB devices (mouse and keyboard). . .

unplugging the power ..

pushing and holding the power button ..

swearing at it . .

.talking nice to it . ..

planning how I was going to rewrite the entire show before tonight's tech . .

I had this same issues two summers ago and sent the console in for a new USB card . . . is there something that I am doing to burn through USB cards at this pace? .. what can I do (besides swear at and sweat talk the console on a regular basis) . . .

I'm afraid to turn it off until after the run is over . . .

Quick question -- is there any series of beeps that the Ion makes when booting up? That could definitely help us isolate a problem.

When it DOES boot there is a series of beeps (I affectionately refer to as "mid 80s video game sfx") . . when it DOES NOT boot up there is nothing but soul crushing silence . .

This sounds like it could be a problem with the soft power button. Give ETC Technical Services a call and we can help you isolate the problem.

I should clarify a bit . . .

even when the board does not boot up the little LEDs light up and the face panel screen lights up and says "Ion" .. but there are no beeps and no monitor action . . .

so the button works .. but maybe not the way it is supposed to .. and it doesn't happen every time .. just more and more often . .

I'll give you guys a call as soon as I can catch my breath . .
