Effect Tracking through EffectStop

Hi all,

I'm running Eos 2.8.1 Build 6 on an Ion Classic (Win7) and am having issues with some effects tracking through effect stop commands. For example I have an effect running in Q5 (stock effect 917 on generic RGBW), stop it and fade out the channels in Q6, then mark and bring the channels up in Q10. When playing back the sequence in order the effect never stops running, ignoring the EffectStop command. If I Go To Cue 10 the effect does not run.

Any thoughts on both cause, and a workaround?

  • I had the exact same issue come up this week, where I had a cue stack running several different intensity effects. StopEffect would stop the previous cue's effect and have an effect from 2 cues back track through, as if the StopEffect command was only able to recognize the previous effect "layer," so to speak. In one instance the effect only tracked through half of the fixtures in the group. Same behavior as you saw, Go to Cue would recognize the StopEffect command but hitting Go through the stack didn't. Some band-aid style workarounds included:

    • Building an intermediate cue (going from Cue 2 to 3, build 2.5 in the middle) that had a separate StopEffect command for the additional effect command for the effect that was tracking through. Giving it a time of 0 and follow time of 0 made it seamless. However, this only worked for one of my instances and not the other.
    • Building a macro that the problem cue would execute with another stopeffect command. Inelegant but did the job for an instant stop, having it fade an effect out didn't work very well.
    • The solution that worked best for me was to build a new absolute effect for the problem cue that copied the original effect but just set all values to Background. Again, inelegant but it worked.

This issue certainly seemed like a but to me but I would also be all ears about how this logically happened.

  • This one was hard to find but we think we got all of it fixed. If you see something like this again, please let us know.
