Media Server Transparency on Animated GIF files

Looking for some information regarding the Media Server's capacity to handled animated GIF files with transparencies. I built simple layer animations using some animated GIFs on a Mac and it handles the transparencies of the image without issue, however transferring these sequences on to an Ion Console (xp model) and on Nomad on Windows 10 these same GIFs lack the transparency which has become solid white. What is the cause of this and do any work arounds exist?

  • Depending on which platform you are working on Eos uses a different media engine to work with media files. On mac it uses AVFoundation and on Windows, Quicktime. There are slight discrepancies between the two media engines and as you have discovered AVFoundation can handle transparent pixels within a .gif format. This is actually something we're actively currently working on as we move towards version 3.0 of Eos Software.

I'm afraid to say there is no work around as yet, but the ability that can be achieved using AVFoundation has been noted and we aim to replicate that in our future implementation.
