Odd screen behaviour - Gio - no borders/tabs visible. Bug?

Had a scan for similar issues but nothing obvious.

Gio@5 running 2.8.2 did a weird thing the other day. Console was fine when I ran a show on Sunday but when I came in 5 days later and loaded a different show file, one of the monitor screens had what was effectively a zoomed in window of a magic sheet but no screen tabs or borders at all. Not something I've seen before.

I couldn't do anything with the window - tried mouse click & wheel to enlarge/reduce screen size with no effect. Entering channels brought up the lanterns I could see on the magic sheet, but they didn't correlate to my patch.

In between Sunday and Thursday one of the other lads had been at a rehearsal on Monday and presumably checked his patching for the show he's setting up this weekend, but at the end, he loaded a basic show file he'd created for when we show movies - which included 4 VERY large magic sheet buttons on the screen affected - That was the patch I'd loaded mine over so I went back to that and the screen was the same - no borders/tabs.

I spoke with him today as he started the build weekend, and apparently he loaded his own showfile today and all was apparently as it should be.

But the question is why might the screen change in this way? I had a quick look in settings on Friday when I ran my own 1-nighter but as time was tight I couldn't see anything obvious that might have changed. Are there log files that might indicate what could have been changed/corrected in the settings?

Cheers

  • what you've seen is the so-called Limited Expand Mode. it was introduced in 2.8 and can make a magic sheet the only thing you see on the screen, no tabs, no borders. to get in and out of it you use Shift+Displays. you can also start this mode in the magic sheet display menu (double click on the tab's tab). this state can also be recorded into a screenshot.

this mode doesn't start on its own, so i'd say someone played around. LEM is persistent so loading a new showfile will not help. the only thing you can do to get out of it is either run a snapshot that has no LEM or with Shift+Displays.

  • Excellent - thanks for the quick response Ueli.
And yes, it does rather sound as if there's been some 'playing around'.

I'll test the theory when I have clear access to the desk, but for now I'm happy that it wasn't a bug and that there is a way around it Slight smile
