Sync Backup Question

Hi there! 
 We're using two different eos consoles, a GIO (4k) and ION (6k). Presently, Gio is the Backup console. But it seems to us that this might be wrong, since Gio has less parameters. Putting the problem in other perspective: can also we use Gio as Primary and Ion as Backup? Is it ok that one has more output addresses than the other? What are the exact rules for correctly Sync Backup with these consoles?

When you have two devices in a master-backup relationship, the total output count of the system is equal to device with the lowest output count. So in your case it doesn't matter which device is primary or backup- because the GIO has an output count of 4k, your whole system is limited to 4k outputs.
