Programing LEDs and universes

I am trying to teach myself to program an Element. I have the basics down pretty well for single parameter fixtures, but when it cones to a multi function fixture, in my case a K9 Pup, i am totally lost. Going through the work book there is something to do with programming a universe. I am not understand the reason for doing this. Or even what the next step is after assigning a universe.

Thanks.

  • universe is the fancy name for the amount of DMX addresses that fit into one old-fashioned 5pin DMX cable. that's 512 addresses. as long as you're running DMX from the back of your console it's either in universe 1 or 2. instead of just patching to address 1 or 50 or 500 you can say you want to have those addresses on the second cable (the one plugged into port 2 at the back) by typing 2/1, 2/50 or 2/500

  • Its not really any different that for a single parameter fixture.

You patch a channel to the start address of the fixture but instead of setting the type to dimmer you set it to the type of the fixture.

Lots of fixtures are already in the software library,  so when you click on type then click Search and type k9 and the Pup is listed.

Once its patched type the channel number and @ full enter and it should come on.

If you then pick the colour picker tab you should be able to set the colour.

Regarding Universes they are only really used if you've used up all 512 DMX addresses and so you can have another universe with another 512 DMX address in it,  so nothing to do with what you are trying to do now.

  • Thanks so much. The universe thing kept throwing me.
