From which version are you updating? Starting in 2.6 there are no 2048 versions anymore. Depending on hardware version they automatically went to 3072 or 6144. And that's also the maximum the respective versions can go to.
The best bet would be to email ETC with your serial number and we would be able to tell you for certain whether your console would go to 3K or 6K. It might also be worth making sure you know whether your console is XP or not due to version 2.9 being the last version of software for those desks running that operating system.
