Would it help if I update the Software?

Yes, the fixture library and software base versions need to match. So if you downloaded the latest fixture library, you would need to update the software to 2.8.3.

Just confirming my limited knowledge - updating fixture libraries do not keep up with software versions for obvious reasons however updating software should update fixtures or do the fixtures get updated more often than software?

Fixture Libraries get updated about every two weeks on a set schedule.  Software less often, basically as needed and / or as new features are incorporated and are ready for release.  No hard and fast schedule for software updates.

I didn't know fixtures get updated so often. That's good to know. However I would think those versions would not match the software versions since they come out more often so how can we know what is current or what matches/works with the software version being run?

Also, kind of what I was trying to say is when updating software do they always include the most recent fixtures in those updates based on when that software was released or are fixture libraries updated separately all the time?

Fixture Libraries are updated separately all the time.  But those new Libraries are always for the current software release.  So if you have the most up to date software installed in your console, the newest Libraries will be the right ones (i.e. will work).

There is no good reason not to always have the most up to date software in your console.  Cavet, once you have a show programmed and running properly in performances, it is a good idea to wait until the run is over before updating the Console software.

Just chiming in here to confirm in case it isn't clear- when you update the desk software you get the latest library at the time of release with it. Patches come out in between Eos releases to add new fixtures.

And that is what I have been asking. So how do we know when library updates have been released between software releases? I dont recall ever seeing those notices like software.

These are every two weeks, though sometimes more if an urgent request needs to be filled.  These are posted on the software landing pages for each console.  As these patches are not necessary unless a customer needs to use a fixture that has been added or changed, we do not send out notices as we would with software.
