Lamp Controls

Question

Hi all, 
 Just out of curiosity when you're using moving lights that are HID before a show do you need to strike the lamp or go into lamp controls and do lamp on, or when you're at the end of the show before you shutdown the console, do you need to go into lamp controls and do lamp off?

It depends on the default settings in the mover. Some (like out Elation Platinum Beam 5R's) have a default setting to lamp on at power up so you don't need to lamp them on through EOS. I didn't like that configuration as the power to the fixtures was often on when the fixtures weren't needed so I changed the default behaviour to NOT lamp on at power up. I wrote a Macro to lamp them on instead. 
 Lamping them off through EOS about 5 or 10 minutes before killing power to them is a good idea so they get a chance to cool off. Some, probably most, manufacturers recommend this, Vari*Lite for our VL1100AS's for one.
