v 1.4.4 is available for download

Eos/Ion 1.4.4 software is available for download from the ETC Web site.  Please remember the following:

If you have multiple control devices on your network, all devices must be upgraded to 1.4.4.  As a reminder, all ETC manufactured devices (consoles, RPUs, RVIs) should have the online software installed.  PC clients should install the offline software.

Mac people.... there were no changes to the operation of the UI.  As such, we have no compiled a new offline Mac build.  You can continue to use 1.4.3.

The major feature of this release is the support use of the Net3 Radio Focus Remote (RFR) over Ethernet. This supports multiple base stations on the network, and multiple handheld units connected to a single base station.

1.4.4 requires new firmware to be installed on both the RFR base station and the handheld unit.     There are three ways to install this firmware.  (Please see the release note on the downloads page of the RFR.).  To install the firmware directly from the Eos/Ion shell, you must have XPe 1.4.2 installed (the current version of XPe installed on your device can be found in the shell, under "General" at the bottom of the screen. )  If you have XPe 1.4.2 or higher, the firmware updater is found under the "RFR" button in the shell.

If you do not have the this version of XPe, you can install the RFR firmware from 1.4.4. offline or GCE offline on a PC.

We recommend that all users update to 1.4.4 as their production calendar permits.

Thanks all!

Anne

I just updated to 1.4.4 without updating RFR firmware and my RFR seems to be functioning correctly. Is it fine to use the RFR as is for the near term until I can get a computer with the GCE software on it and update the RFR?

I also noticed another issue when opening two different shows. I created an updated rep plot file in 1.4.4 offline and successfully loaded it into the board. I then switched to another show file for the show I have later this week which was made in 1.4.3. This show has scrollers patched in channels 101 through 105 and I wanted to make sure that things functioned correctly. I then switched back to my new rep plot show file and I noticed that in the tombstone's for channels 101 through 105 a C was displayed as if it had a scroller (but no wavy line) eventhough in this file the scrollers are not patched to those channels. To test further I again switched back to the other show file and saw a similar thing. This time the channels that had scrollers in the rep plot file, but no scrollers in this show file showed a C in the tombstone as well. Is this an issue with using show files from 1.4.3 in 1.4.4? I didn't have time to troubleshoot any further.

The V2.0.0 Firmware for RFR adds mainly the ability to connect the base station to your console via the network, instead of just via USB; there are also a few other minor bug fixes. As long as you are happy using the RFR Base Station via USB connection, then you can wait until you get a computer with the GCE software.

  • Thanks Corey. I have now had the chance to update the RFR and basestation, but I have a new question. Once I turn on the remote the basestation LED flashes continuously between red and green. It happens whether the basestation is hooked up to the cosole by USB or to the network. It does not seem to affect functionality, but I never noticed it before updating to the latest firmware. Is this normal?

  • With the 2.0 software, the led indicates communication from any remote.

Green means that the unit is on

    Blink red/green means communication.

  • Corey,

Thank you for the clarification. I figured that was the case, but I could not find it stated in any of the documentation. The closest thing I found was on the spec document where it stated " 3. A signal LED shall illuminate when the receiver is receiving radio signal from the transmitter."
