MH Control Question

Our two U'King MHs point in different directions when in their "Home" positions! I'll be looking at their mirror and belts for any overt problems Monday but my question here is about "Home" positions from the console.  I know we can create FP's that will send them in a particular direction but am wondering if I can set a "Home" and "Do Not Exceed" value for them somewhere so I could just select their channels and run say FX901 (circle)  and they would start from the same position. I.E appear to dance in synchronization. And if one can set these outer limits is the difference between them now a (virtual) 100%? IE Pan a 0% is the home position and Pan 100% the do not exceed position?

  • the Do Not Exceed is not as simple, but the home position is. in Setup > System > System > HomePreset you can name a preset (i usually use 9999). then in live you select the misbehaving mover (e.g. Channel 101), pan it until it matches the other one and then say Chan 101 Record Preset 9999 Enter. from now on the mover will home to this new position you gave it.

  • Thanks agian. You must be working late. I'm going in early tomorrow to be able to run this on the real lights. Its worth knowing. I'm still going to open the beast when I can to see if there is anything obviously out-of-whack. I see shows on TV all the time and the ops have hundreds of MH's all in perfect synch. We have to start somewhere I guess.

  • If they really are differently calibrated then it would probably makes sense to copy the profile and change what you have set as the user range value  for the pan and tilt.

Most of the cheap MH have something like a  -270 > 270 degree range for the pan (might not even be symmetrical).   If you created the profile yourself you might not have set these - click in the range column and set the DMX min max to 0 65355 and the user min -270 and max 270 and set the home to 0.

If for some resaon one light has a different physical range of angles then set them in the profile.

Its much easier to work if the angle ranges are set as then you are working in degrees not arbitrary percentages

You should do the same for tilt -130  > 130

  • Couldn't see anything obvious inside them except one unit's magnet was a lot shorter than the others. Did a menu reset on the MHs themselves then chose one to manually aim to same place as other and made a Home preset. And, along with a FP to put them onto part of the stage I've had very good results applying effects like the 901 circle. So, things to the point I think we can put up a bit of smoke and dance these lights to open our very local version of the Oscars Sat night. Thanks all.
