Analog Input

So I am looking to built a light switch that is going to be installed into a set. I want to use the analog input on the ION so that when the actor flips the switch the desk fires a cue. If I am understanding the maual, for the latest releace, all I need to do is short pins 1 and 2 on the analog input D-sub. And then set up my event in the event list. Is this correct? And what are the Master 40 pins used for?

Any help or clarification on the analog input portion of the ION woudl be greatly apreceated.

  • You'll want to put the switch between pins 1 and 15 - basically, if the desk sees 12V input on pin 1, it triggers. Pin 15 can supply that 12V.

You should also short pins 2 and 12 (Ground) together.

You should NOT short pin 15 (12V) to the chassis, as we found out yesterday.

In the Show Control display, create a list 1 that is external, analog, and typically Source 1 (assuming that you haven't changed this in the shell). Then create an event 1/1 that triggers a macro. That macro should be GO.

    Hope that makes sense?

  • Yeah totally does. I finally made sense of the pin out the other day and have been trying to find a 15 possition D-Sub here locally. I think I am going to have to worder it.

  • Radio Shack at least used to carry parts like D-Sub connectors... but I've noticed them moving away from carrying discrete electronic parts in the last few years.  Too bad since it was so convenient (even if often very overpriced).

Digi-Key is a great resource for ordering parts like this, assuming you can make your way through their unbelievably large catalog :-).
