Group Sub Select & Make Null

Why is it that I can use the top fader button as a group select only when the corresponding fader is at 0?

I am sure you guys have a reason but what is it and could this be a setting I could change.

Two times I have wanted this and not been able to were...

Busking a christmas show with a sub for each type of fixture, Color Blast, Studio Colors and Studio Spots and wanted to be able to keep maximize my direct selects but if the sub was up (or in the case of an inhibitive sub down) I was not able to quickly select the sub change the color and fade back in.

Coming from the Expression background I am use subs allot when modifying a show during rehearsal. So this week I set the look and then thought hey I should grab these channels to update the cue. My work around in this case was to simply use the group sub button and then wheel to the value I desired but i would love is if I could use the group sub button in both of these types of setups.

My second question is one I feel dumb asking but I really would like to understand make null better. For instance the Help says it makes a parameter non recordable. Easy enough, but what about the times I want to make the recorded value null removing any move commands so that the value will track from a previous cue? What I have been doing (that seams like there must be an easier way) is going to blind selecting a channel or parameter making it null and then clicking make null again to un-grey and restore the channel.

Thanks again for the help.

I'll take the easy one, although I'm keen to know the answer to your first question.

If you want to remove hard values from a channel you don't need to use Make Null. When in Live or Blind - Chan @ Enter will discard the move instruction and give the channel a tracked value from the previous cue. Normal rules apply, in Blind you don't need to update, in Live the value will become red and need an update to save it.

This synax can be applied to any parameter or whole parameter category.
