Multiple users

Hello,

I am an LD at a school where I design shows and teach new students how to operate a lighting console. Next year I want to try something new, I want to have a separate user profile for each student. I don't want anyone to be able to edit each others profile but still be able to view and copy anything as needed to their profile. is this possible? And if so how?

  • No. The desk is meant for one person to control lighting fixtures, not run a complex user database.

But you can have your students save show files on USB drives instead of the desk. That way all of their user set-ups remain on the show files.

Keep in mind that some configurations are saved in different places. User Settings will save fade times and Home/Highlight/Lowlight presets.... but Snapshots save monitor configurations and, if selected, fader layouts. (including master cuestack)

  • +1 for USB sticks, I recommend it to most of my clients - High Schools, Colleges, Churches, even the IA local.

The main reason actually involves Nomad as an offline editor. The students can each have Nomad on their own computer. You can assign certain activities as homework if they all have a system (or you can get Nomad on the school systems)

I also love to have folks work through the "Tea Break Tutorial" workbook with the visualizer and Nomad on their own time. In my mind this is vastly more helpful than the video series.
