Really interested in learning more about what hardware is required to operate on artnet or sACN.
The house I'm currently working in has been running on copper lines for decades and has begun running some ethernet lines around the building. The latest large Christmas show has integrated an Ion XE and Ion classic as a main and backup (respectively) but still outputs on the copper dmx outputs of the main console. And is receiving some basic OSC commands from a Qlab machine.
The house also receive touring productions that do not operate on etc consoles but still require connection to dimmers and intelligent fixtures. Where previously 2 universes of copper have been given to the production, more and more frequently 3 or 4 are required at stage. I believe integrating a network with nodes at dimmers and at stage would be the best solution for this and allow for more expansion in the future, but also don't want to bottleneck the system by only being usable by etc only hardware.
My question is: These house consoles are happily sat on a network. How would one go about starting to integrate the newer protocols? Does the etc Eos family require the etc net2/net3 hardware to output in sACN or can any node product be implimented?
