Multiple Playlists

Hey Folks,

So I have read the section in the manual on multiple playlists but I have a couple questions. I am using an EOS with the most current software.

During a cueing session my designer asked me to create a playlist for a "sunrise" cue which runs during the entire first act of the Opera. I did this on Playlist 2 which is made up of several cues all linked together with follow/hang times and is executed off of Playlist one, cue 2. Playlist two  involves conventional fixtures (used only for the sunrise) as well as 4 of the 17 moving lights in the rig (4 used in act one only for the sunrise and then used in acts two & three)

I created the cue list no problem and then we created cue list 1 with cue list 2 sitting in 2/0. I was very careful to make sure I didn't touch the moving lights used in playlist 2 in playlist 1. Then, during rehearsals I realized that I couldn't record/update any of the cues in playlist one for fear of adding the lamps used in playlist 2 to the current cue in playlist 1. Am I correct or is there a way to be re-recording cues while the 2nd playlist runs. Confused yet?

As a side note, I did end up getting a few of my movers confused between the playlists and used "make null" in blind mode to fix my problems. Is there a way to lock out lamps in certain cues, in certain playlist so that nothing can get confused between active cues?

Thanks for your input.

  • Clayton, you can use update in this circumstance to change values in cue list one, without worrying about data from cue list 2 coming into list 1.    If you override channels stored in cue list 1 with new information, update enter will add that data back into cue list 1.  Currently, if you have two cue lists on stage, add a channel that isn't in use in either list, but want to add that channel to cue list 1, you can [channel select] [update] [1/n] [Enter] to force that channel into the cue list 1.

You can also use record only.  (record only stores only manual values).  So, lets say you are sitting in 1/6 and 2/1.  You add a new channel.   [Record Only] [Cue 1/n] [Enter] will add the new channel into cue 1/n.  This is where it is helpful to pay attention to your selected cue.  The selected cue is displayed above the command line.  It is the last cue you did anything to in live.  So, if you had hit go to run 2/1, then go to run 1/5, cue 1/5 is your selected cue.    At that point then [Record Only] [Enter] will store any manual changes back to cue 1/5.

    Hope that helps.

  • Thanks Anne! I figured Update had something to do with it but you explained it very well!

    Thanks again,

  • Hi Clayton. Something else to keep in mind... you stated earlier that you plotted the sunrise (list 2), then plotted the rest of the act (list 1).   If you find yourself in this scenario again, when plotting list 1, you can select the chans in list 2, and [make null] when in live.  This will exclude them from record functions

Perhaps as a wish, [Group Cue 2/] would select all the channels in list 2.  In the meantime, [Query Cue/2] does this nicely.
