fixture profile

There is not currently a profile, although if it is something like RGB or RGBW you can use one of the generic profiles. Otherwise, we will need a user manual or DMX chart at minimum in order to create a profile.

If it is just an 8bit RGB fixture, you would find it in the Generic manufacturer listed as LED RGB 8B. There are several variants in the generic section to account for different color mixes and 8bit vs 16bit.

if I'm getting this right all Dmx fixtures are either 8bit or 16bit is there like a chance that i could buy a cheap fixture and it is dmx capable but not 8 or 16 bit?

If a parameter (say, red) is controlled by a single DMX address it is an 8b parameter.  If by two, it is 16b.  This is a simplification but the basic idea.

so does this mean that all the cheap dmx par light fixtures on amazon are either 8bit or 16bit making almost all compatible?

ok so then there's a risk that buying cheap fixtures like that could have a mix and of 8b and 16b which would render them useless if they aren't in the fixture library, am I correct or not? also sorry this is taking so much explanation I just need to be super confident about this because I would have to relay the information to one of my superiors via a written report in order to get the fixtures approved.

I think we still have a misunderstanding.  A fixture can have a mix of 8b and 16b parameters- this is OK.  In order for the console to properly control the fixture (any fixture) it need to know which parameters relate to which DMX addresses, and which parameters are 8b vs 16b.  

The fixture manual and DMX chart will give us this information.  We then program that information so the console knows how to send the fixture data and control it correctly.  I hope this helps to clarify.
