Why doesn't EOS include NCE?

It seems like NCE is needed on almost every console upgrade/install (lots and lots of NET2 nodes out there still) so why is it NOT included...or at lease the installer, on new consoles?  It doesn't take much space.  It can't break anything if there is no NET2....and I always have to install it, so....why not?

  • Hi ,

Can you believe that it's been a decade since the last version of NCE was released? Net2 nodes were discontinued even before that version was released as it was an update specifically for older 1-port nodes which were later configurable in Gateway Configuration Editor (GCE) and then Net3 Concert.

We don't include other applications (NCE, GCE, Concert, UpdaterAtor, etc) in the Eos installer itself for three reasons:
    1. The versions would quickly become mismatched and out of date as the different software applications are developed separately on not always on the same time table.
    2. The size of the Eos installer would grow to be quite large as those additional programs grow.
    3. Not every user will need the additional applications to use Eos

It is no longer included in the console images as we have found that the majority of customers who continue to use Net2 nodes are no longer needing to reconfigure them often from the console (as they are likely installed or not modified regularly). As you mentioned, we do still support installing NCE Version 4.3.1 on the console for those times where you find that reconfiguration is more frequently needed.
