How does BPM interact with Rate?

I'm learning to busk for live music. I'm having a bit of trouble getting my head round a few concepts related to effects.

Are Rate and BPM two different ways of looking at the same value? Or are they two separate things that somehow interact?

Things I believe are true (correct me if I'm wrong):

  • A rate of 200 is exactly twice as fast as a rate of 100
  • Rate is modified by the global Rate, which you can put on a fader.
  • If you Learn BPM, one cycle of the effect (i.e. from left to right on the little graph) will fit to the time between each press of the Enter button.
    • Yes. Rate is in percent, so 100% is "original", e.g. using the effect's cycle time, 200 is twice as fast, e.g. getting done in half the cycle time.
    • Effect speed is modified by the cycle time, the record target's effect overrides (e.g. cue level effect override for Rate and/or BPM), by the playback's Effect Rate fader and the Global FX fader.
    • correct.
    • Rate and BPM can be used simultaneously in the record target's effect override. Rate is a factor, BMP is another way of inputting the cycle time. So while they work differently you can use one of them or both of them to influence if you have a slow or a quick effect.

    does that help?
