Patching Without Creating Parts

I am working my way through the Essentials training and am on the second set. The first thing is an exercise in patching. The first 9 channels are fine but then it is asking to patch channel 11 with addresses 5, 6, 7. (and is displayed that way on the spreadsheet). When I attempt it, it always creates parts as opposed to 5, 6, 7) Later on, it does show patching with parts. I have reviewed the manual, videos and this forum. What am I failing to do?

you're supposed to make parts. that's the only way of getting multiple dimmers controlled by the same channel. the reason why it looks differently further down is because there the parts have different…
