Manual control of Focus time

Is there a way to manually control the focus time for a fixture?  This is on an Ion with 2x20 fader wing.

Here's what I would like to do.  I have an actor moving on stage and I would like to follow him/her with a S4 with an iCue mirror - like you would normally with a follow spot.  I would like to have the fixture in cue n to set the initial intensity,  position, etc and cue n+1 to set the final focus position and have the focus move time under manual control.  I've tried taking manual control of the timing with the playback faders but this was not successful.

I know I can probably train the actor to follow the light (I've done this before) but it would be a better sollution for me to control the light movement.

  • When you use the fader to take manual control, it only captures the intensity. If you want to control NI parameters you can either use the [manual override] fader control, which makes all moving parameters manual. Or you can make just the focus times manual in the cue [Cue 1 focus time manual]. If you make the focus times manual, the fader will only control the focus moves in that cue.

  • Dan, thanks for the advice  - it does what I need.  However I have another related problem.  I have several cues, one following the other, that I need to manually control the focus move.  That is cue 1, focus moves from A to B, cue 2 focus moves from B to C.  The problem is that I need to rest the handle between cue 1 and 2 to maintain manual control.  To do this I inserted a cue with a short hang time as cue 1.5 which gives me a brief pause to reset the handle.  But, cue 1 never ends even though I make the complete move with the handle.  This means cue 1.5 won't run.  I need cue 1 to end when I have completed the manual move of the focus.
