Working with presets / "scenes"

Using an EOS, I would like to be able to recall a "scene" (stage look) with one direct select button press.  I tried to use a preset, but the channels must be selected first (via group or keypad) before the preset is applied.

This has come up lately when a designer has set up a bunch of cyc looks by mixing conventional cyc lights (patched as individual channels, not fixtures).  To recall them, it takes two button presses: the "CYC" group direct select and then the preset direct select that corresponds to the desired look.

It would be great to have a "scene" direct select that combines the group selection, intensity and NIP information (and possibly timing as well) into one record target.

Any thoughts?

  • Check out the [Recall From] button.

It's still 2 keystrokes, but if you have a lot of different fixtures in your "scene" it'll do what you want.

If you wanted to spend the time you could use Macros to do exactly what you want.

And as an aside - Anne - there's another person who'd like a fully timed, executable, palletized cue in a preset   :-)

  • Since palettes and presets are manual functions, and they can contain a bunch of things, as Patrick suggests, the fastest way to get the entire "bucket", is it [Recall From] [Direct Select].  As an aside, [Group] [Direct Select] accesses the channels stored in that direct select.

Re:  the aside.  Message received! :-)
