Spot Following

if cue 1 is downstage and cue 2 is upstage, give either Cue 2 Focus manual timing or the whole of cue 2, depending on what else changes.

Cue 2 Focus Time {Manual} Enter. manual is a softkey. everything that has a manual time will follow the master fader pair.

I'm fighting the urge to say "use a followspot" (but clearly not very effectively)

If you have A3D installed, you could do the follow as a manual move with a mouse or touchscreen. Use the Focus Offset feature to point reliably at the stage floor.

That sound good but couldn't find [Focus] to set just its time so made whole cue manual. But for some reason I could not xfade with the pair (embarrassed to say I have never used them! So back to manual.

ATudge about 5 years ago! came up with a 'effect sub' method that looks interesting too.

Did you mean a manual followspot? I thought of using them but director wants the hung MLs.

I just installed A3D and for myself but during a show we have volunteers who can only follow the script and press the GO button. We may be able to get them to use the master pair on a manual cue (ueliregg) but will probably (for simplicity) time the cue and have the actor walk with the beam. In case of a hiccup they can hit the pause button I guess.

When I had to do this several years ago we broke it up into several smaller cues and hammered the go button when the actor moved quickly.

sk8rs_dad matches my experience.  We also rehearsed the moves like Dance Choreography.  The actors were told they had to keep pace or be in the dark and ruin the entire scene. 

To keep it simple for our ops the cue method is where I'm heading. The Pause button can be used in emergency but I like Seth's telling them to keep pace or go dark. Actors do not like going dark!

As an aside: If I sit in cue 1 and pull down the left master fader pair then GO I get only a change in intensity in one cue. Yet in another cue I do the same I do see the P&T change!.
