Cyberlights on the Ion

I patched my Cyberlights (4-Turbo's and 6 Lithos) and the library only shows 2 choices, both having 25 "channels", but mine are 20 "channels".  They aren't responding to any commands. I patched some my575's successfully.  Does anyone know if I'll have to write a new custom profile for the Cybers?

  • Hi Mike,

I'll bet you've figured this out by now but both Cyber profiles take 20 outputs.  We have a mixture of Turbo and Litho SV's and they work pretty well straight from the Fixture library.

    Good Luck, B

  • I just looked at the fixture list page and was shocked for a second that the cybers are listed as 25 parameters.  But I think I've figured it out-  They have always tacked on Hue, Saturation, and Brightness onto color mixing fixtures (I've come around to loving this).  I now see for the first time that they also list the four wheel modes Color, Gobo, Gobo 2, and Beam FX as individual parameters.  They do not use any extra outputs.

So to perfectly unclear-  Take the 20 outputs, add seven bonus parameters, then subtract two since the 16 bit Pan and Tilt each use two outputs, gives you a total of 25 listed Parameters.

I haven't used our Cybers for the last couple of Software releases but we be next week.  I'm ...confident  that they'll work like always.

  • I thought I had seen 25 parameters.  I tried getting rid of the hue and saturation, basically re-edit the profile, but it wouldn't allow me do change or delete them.  They may actually have worked, but I'm still using the Expression 3 while I transition (and to turn on and off the Cybers while I get the Ion going), and maybe when I switched my output cables, the Cybers may have shut down the lamp from losing DMX(?) and I couldn't get them re-struck from the Ion.  So I'm going to give it another try- turning on a couple of them manually, and see if I actually have control.  Thanks for your help.

  • If you need to strike them from the Ion, go to Lamp Controls in the SoftKeys menu and select Global Fixture Reset.

    Enjoy.

  • Believe it or not, hitting Global Fixture Reset started the Cyber up.  And Fixture Shutdown did shut it off, but without the cool-down process it normally takes with turning the lamp off and fans running for a few minutes to cool it down.  I have our lighting contractor (TPS-Atlanta) looking into the relay part of things, which I know where they are, what fixtures/outlets they're assigned to, but not sure how it all works together.  I actually don't know if that was something they put in or ETC had done.  Thanks for your help.

  • I have recently discovered that our cybers too, are not cooling properly when using the Fixture Shutdown in Lamp Controls.  The fans shut off thirty seconds after I execute the command.  Could this be a profile issue?  Does anyone know?  I am pretty sure that this has cost me a couple of lamps.

Also, in a related note-  As a result of the above, I've been killing the power at the breaker to destrike the lamps, then turning it back on for the fans to cool.  I then try to remember to shut the fixtures down through the Lamp Controls.  Sometimes, when I start the console the next day, the lamps strike, sometimes they wait until I reset.  Today, I have them to the deck, next to the ION.  I execute the Shutdown, then when the fans die at thirty seconds, I flip the switches off and on to get the fans back.  When I come back, the lamps have restruck having become cool enough.

Ideally, I want the lamps to go off and the fans to cool and for me to be able to walk away at the end of the night without bringing in the pipes to babysit the process.  Then I would like the Lamps to be off the next day until I reset them from the board.  Anybody have any ideas?

    Thanks, B

  • Actually, after going back to the Expression and turning off the Cybers with the macro I had, the fans run about 30 seconds- the same as when I turn them off with the Fixture Shutdown on the Ion.  So all's good for now...
