Importing Fixture Profiles

I've use merge to important profiles from one showfile to another.

Is there a way though I can select to import only certain profiles? I don' want some to be imported and zap my current ones.

I looked at advanced but not sure how it works.

  • if you use File>Merge>Advanced, click Patch and in the table fill in the Start *and* End fields for one channel that has this fixture profile patched.

  • OK Doing something wrong. Have a FixtureX patched to Chan 4 DMX addresses 47-57 in source showfile.

Back in target show file I File>Merge>Advanced>Patch and put 4 in the start, 4 in the end and 150 in the target and hit OK. I end up with the right fixture patched to chan 50. But I find that the chans this guy used in the source 47-57 file are now unpatched in my target file. I don't think I read your instructions right. Sorry

  • you mean the imported channel steals the addresses from other channels after the merge? that would be correct behavior, because each address can only be patched to one channel. if you merge a channel that uses e.g. addresses 1-10 it will have to steal those addresses from other channels that already use addresses 1-10.

  • As I'm using Patch/merge/advance/patch the fixture is coming into the target file along with the addresses it was pointing at in the source file. And ,as you say, if you already have fixtures in your target file using those addresses the new guy wipes them out! I can't see the logic of this. It made quite mess in my target that I had to clear up.

As you can bring all the profiles from the source - without the DMX links using file/merge/fixtures. Bringing just one should be the same. I tried using Patch/Merge/Advance/Fixture (which would make sense to me) but couldn't enter anything into the highlighted field. I'm having another look at this tonight.

  • The problem is if you don't have a channel assigned to the profile,  you don't have a way of selecting the speicifc profile in the import,  so you either have to import all the profiles in the original or go via an intermediate file if you dont want to re patch something.

ie if in an empty show you just imported with the channel numbers of the fixture profiles you wanted,  then saved that and then imported just the profiles from that saved file into your real show file you would get what you wanted.

  • Right oh, thanks. My underlying problem was I had changed some of my home made profiles and like an idiot gave them the same name! Duh! So when merging the source file I was concerned if the newbees would completely replace my older ones. Solved it by giving all my changed ones a little x on the end of their name and then brought them all on board. Be nice if we had megadoodles of $$ so we could afford nice, well know MLs with real profiles. Still, its and education.
