Moving Head Effect

I was watching a vid that had some really cool moving head effects and wanted to see if anyone knew how to make it.

I looked into some early post on this forum and came across a post named "complex moving head effect" I had copied the suggested way to run the effect via absolute but the issue I was running into was when I would add the levels 100 & 0 it would alter the pan on my moving heads instead of dimming out the light. any suggestions on how to fix this?

  • Actually, those lights appear to just continusly spin their Tilt...as you can see e.g. in 55:50 if you look closely.

But to answer your question, you want to look at building a standard "Fly in" / "Fly out" / "Peel out" (multiple names, always the same idea) effect. I build them like this:

    Action 1 = Intensity @ Full

Action 2 = Tilt @ - 90 (so change value by minus from current position)

    Action 3 = Intensity out

Action 4 = Tilt to Background (so restore to start position)

Grouping the lights in other orders than 1 thru last can easily achieved using Offset. Makes interesting looks with the same Effect.

Other programmers will build it a bit different..like starting with @0 so lights first go out, but the theory is the same usually. You can also substitue the Level in Actions 2 and 4 by Focus Palettes or Presets if you want specific start / end positions, for example from Downstage Center. In this case you don't need to write anything in the Params column.

There's a great video from ETC with David Kane about building and using cool Effects on Eos..worth watching !
