While I use and prefer running my board via ETCNet in my home facilities, I think keeping the hard line DMX is important when touring, as we often set up our own hardline universe to run our movers
Anne,
Early days yet, but thus far only have used network output. I could foresee using native outputs to wring out /repair DMX devices in the booth......

We added our ION after the initial systems was installed, so for us hardline DMX is all we currently have.

I use both DMX and network systems with the ION. In one of our theatres we have a full network for entertaintment control so we use Net 3. In one our other spaces there is no network so we use the hard DMX lines. I have also used the ION on location with a few film/video shoots and have used the hard DMX for these situations.
We are using both - however we are mainly using the Hard DMX output to test and setup gear - Our Ion is basically an on deck/tech console and we are really enjoying having this functionality!
