how to patch house lights in Unison panel to run through Ion

We have just upgraded our space and now will be running house lights and work lights through the Ion console. What are the steps soft patch the dmx addresses from the Unison panel to the console. We have both dimmer and relay options.  Not sure how to patch these, since there is only a dmx address.

Thank you,

  • So you have the DMX address of your house light dimmers and relays? If you have the DMX addresses you can patch them as standard fixtures in EOS. Channel xx [@] Address xx. (or variation of)

Things to think about / pay attention to.

    1. You say Unison panel, what kind of Unison "panel" and what kind of control? (You might have multiple control points and may need a priority structure to manage them)

    2. You'll want to patch your relay addresses appropriately so that you're not fading through them. Can you do it, yes, is it the "best" or most efficient, no.

    3. You mention relays... are your houselights powered by relay and controlled by DMX/sACN? If so think about how/when you want your relays powered.

  • We have the Paradigm system for the house lights and work light stations.  We have upgraded to CEM-3 dimmers. The house light fixtures are dimmable LEDs.  The work lights are LED but they do not dim. We have a combination of  Dimmer modules and relay modules in the ETC Unison and foundry panels.  We will control the house and work lights by both the touch screen and button stations in the space but also want to control them via the Ion console, via network.

I have the dmx addresses for the house and work light fixtures. I was planning to assign the DMX address to a channel but want to be sure this is the correct procedure

What is the procedure for programming the relay dimmers which control the work lights etc.

Thank you for you assistance and time..

  • Hey Kathy!  You can set a channel to an address and set the Type to Generic Non-Dim if you like, or leave it at dimmer type.
