Adding channels to a fader wing?

Is there a way of adding (selected) channels, rather than subs or cues to the fader wing on an Ion? When I try to do it as would seem intuitive - by selecting channels (e.g. [1] [Enter] ) and pressing both buttons of a fader to load, I get an 'invalid sub number' message - which would seem to indicate that it isn't possible?

Should there be a way of doing this without making individual subs for the channels I want on faders?

Thanks.

  • Maybe I'm not understanding, Do you want to simply record new selected channel(s) to a fader (AKA Sub) ?, or edit an existing Fader (Sub), that already has channels assigned ?.

I'm not at the 'puter with Ion Off-Line, but it would seem simple enough to do this in Blind ?, Simply record a channel to a fader, or edit the fader ?.

    What am I missing ?.

  • Thanks for both prompt responses; I think, Steve, the first was getting more at my intention - whether it was possible to block-assign single channels to the faders without recording corresponding subs? In which case for the time being it makes sense simply to record the subs I want and assign those.

Can you simply "record a channel to a fader" ? (If so how?)

    Thanks again.

  • I'm going to assume that if a fader is acting as a Submaster, then you can simply record a single channel at a desired level to a fader/sub.  You can do this live or blind.  I would also assume that you can modify in either live or blind by simply adding the desired channels to the sub, which should be at full in live, and re-record.

This is simple stuff in Expression, has it changed or gotten needlessly complicated in Eos/Ion ?.  Which then makes my assumptions incorrect.
