Question

I'm pretty used to setting up straight plays but have musical coming up. I would like to make some lighting effects that respond in time to the music. Where would I start to look at home to do this please?

There are two windows / macOS apps which allows to analyze sound and sending OSC data: https://github.com/ETCLabs/Sound2Light https://www.luminosus.org 
 Many bands works with a click track from Logic / Ableton ... this software allows to send Timcode (MSC, SMPTE) or OSC data which can processed by the console.
