iPad Pro won't stay connected to my Network

Hi All,

As the subject says, iPad Pro won't stay connected to my Network.

Element 2,  EOS v3.1   My network is working.  I get connection from the NetGear wireless router to the iPad.

It works fine for a few moments.

Then it stops working.  All of the iRFR controls are frozen.

Eventually, the Connection screen command line turns red, and says Remote Disconnected.

This is in line of sight of the wireless router.

This happened with EOS v2.9

This happened with the previous wireless router.

After several moments, It allows me to reconnect to the network.

And the process repeats.....  it's useable, having to reconnect to the network every few keystrokes.

Any ideas?

Thanksomuch

  • how is the router setup?  Is it in bridged mode?  I have seen this happen when SACN traffic is being sent over the wireless network because the device is in bridged mode.  We will need additional info on how the router is setup.

  • Is there another WiFi router near by? I once had the problem where both routers were set to the same channel so would interfere with each other so I changed the wifi channel and all was good.

  • maybe there is a problem because the ipad doesn't see an internet connection on this wifi and disconnects from it? i find it increasingly hard to convince tablets or phones to stay connected to non-internet wifis...

  • I have decided to work on this issue again.   I have updated all of the software involved.  Element at 3.2.11   IPadPro at 17.7.6    iRFR-BTS at 4.14.   I started to research the various  router channels in my area.  I've changed the channel of the router, and the problem seem to have gone away.   I'm stil testing, but I don't seem to have any dropouts or freezes.  Happy Day.  Thank you all, esp. Geoff Crisp.

  • Well, I have had the same problem with two different tablets and smart phone with iRFR apps. We also have a 5-year-old ETCPad which had lots of problems. ETC kindly sent us a complete firmware and software update. IE now the latest greatest.

The original ETCPad was said not to connect automatically if there was no internet connection and the updates would cure this. We do not allow our Netgear router to access the internet for obvious reasons.

Now I only have to pull the ETCPad (or my tablet) out and work for a few minutes when I get that disconnected message! Most of the time now though, I'm able to go to settings, wait a bit and then select our Element 2 console again and things work.

It seems as though either the OSC stream is hiccupping OR our router is misbehaving. The latter being tough to swallow as we have direct line of site from about 50' away!   In fact I was just about to go and buy a new router when I saw that you said this happened with a previous router. So now I am lost too!
