Recording CHASE on ION?

Hello ladies and gentlemen.
I wonder what is the correct way to record a chase on ION?

Thanks!!!

  • Hi Gilberto,

Well, our company is quite new to the ION but this is we accomplished it.

    1) double-press the EFFECT key.
    2) Choose an empty effect # (anything before 901)
    3) The console will next ask you for the TYPE of effect.  Step-based is the most common for standard conventional lighting chases.
    4) Using the page arrow buttons (above the scroll wheel) you will be able to navigate through the various fields to add channels to a step and change timing related to the step.
    5) Continue above until you have all the steps you require.
    6) In the bottom right corner, you should see all the details that affect your entire EFFECT.  You can use your mouse to click on the various attributes (duration, attributes, entry & exit type and times) just like you would set in previous ETC consoles.
    7) Because effects are built in blind, they are automatically saved (as a cue is in blind).
    8) Go back to LIVE and select the channels you have included in your effect and apply your effect to them by typing:
1 THRU 5 [the channels that are in your effect] EFFECT 1 ENTER.
    9) If you know how many cues the effect will run through, you can update multiple cues with this effect at the same time by typing:
UPDATE CUE 1 THRU 10 ENTER.

This will put any unsaved changes into ALL cues listed in the update.  So make sure you have updated any channel changes first before applying effects over multiple cues.

When the console reaches a cue without the effects in it, the effect running will stop or fade out (depending on your exit time you have set in the effect).

You can also apply a BLOCK to the cue AFTER you want the effect to stop, then record to track (if you are not already working in TRACKING MODE).

Since the designer I work with most of the time doesn't understand tracking, most of our cues are built in CUE ONLY mode, so people with more tracking experience on the ION may be able to provide further details on applying effects across multiple cues.

    Hope this helps.
