Setting up a Network Drive for EOS or ION console

How can I setup the details for Network drive such as "Network Path, Provider", "Username" & "Password" under the network drive of maintenance setting in EOS/ION Console?

What kind of things should be taken care for setting up a PC or Laptop as a Network Drive in a same network with EOS/ION console?

  • I just did this today.  It is easier to do if you have static IP addresses for your system. I'm assuming that you are using a PC (not Mac):

On your PC that you want to make the file server:

    • Choose or create a folder  and name it something like "show_files" or "backup" - don't use spaces.
    • Right-click on the folder and choose "sharing and security" - click on "share this folder"
    • Find the IP address or network name for your PC (there are various ways to do this)

On your EOS or ION go to the network drive setup and:

    • click on the "Add" button
    • choose a drive letter for the network drive
    • For network path, enter \\{your PC name or IP}\{folder name} -i.e. \\10.101.1.105\Show_Files
    • choose "other" from the pull down menu, not "Eos"
    • Enter your PC user name
    • Enter your password, if any

It may take a few seconds for the console to find the network drive, if it is succesful you will see it listed in the network drive setup window.

One important note- if you have set up a network drive on a PC and then turn it off or disconnect it from the lighting network, when you try to do a file operation on your console such as opening a file, the console will freeze until it gives up looking for the file server.  This can be a long wait - up to a minute.  So my advice would be to leave the PC on all the time.

    Hope this helps-
