v1.7 thoughts and notes

Hi Anne et al.

I've finally installed 1.7 on my Ion (a month after getting 1.4.5 installed).

A few notes, thoughts and questions: (I have yet to read all of the new manual yet, but I have done some searching . . .)

1. In the Shell, the 5 buttons down the side in the Ion are General, Network, . . . and Local I/O.  The manual indicates it should be Ion instead of Local I/O.

2. Submasters on fader wings: I recognize that users that page their submasters need to see the new sub number.  I don't (lucky me) and find the percentage, sub #, and smaller space for the label visually very cluttered.  Is there/could there be an option for NOT showing the sub number? (I put tape on the console with the fader number on it).

2.5 Manual Fader Config: Is this to indicate on which fader wing fader handle is on?

3. on the channel screen on the Ion, holding DATA and pressing an encoder page button will expand or collapse the tombstones to allow for more ML references.  How do you do this on the RVI?  Pressing and holding all four keys (Shift + D + Alt + F7) is cumbersome and doesn't work.  I did manage it once, but not sure how I did it.  Sometimes I see the text "Encoder Page" in Red on the screen toggled on, but I can't re-create it at will.  Normally it is a momentary as I press Alt + F7 (or F6, F8, etc)).  Help

4.  Playback Display Screen columns:  Thanks for allowing us to widen or narrow the columns on the PDS.  Is there some way to re-position the column (much like an excel or Lightwright column)?  If I've narrowed a column to nothing, and I post some data to it, will the column expand to be visible?

thanks muchly for all the work.  We're a tough crowd to satisfy each and everyone of us.

    Andrew,

Assuming you have a mouse and keyboard connected to your RVI you should be able to hold 'E' on your keyboard (the shortcut for the Parameters key on the EOS) then click on the parameter tiles in the CIA with your mouse.

This is an error in the manual.  It should be Local I/O.  Will get that fixed.

    We will ponder this. :-)

2.5 Manual Fader Config: Is this to indicate on which fader wing fader handle is on?

The Fader Config tool is only needed if you need to map a cue list to more than one handle (and have it be the same instance of that playback).  Or if you want to have multiple instances of a grand master (applicable toward Eos only).  Other than that, the fader config can all be done live.  But the Fader Config tool in setup will tell you how each page is currently mapped.

    4.  Playback Display Screen columns:  Thanks for allowing us to widen or narrow the columns on the PDS.  Is there some way to re-position the column (much like an excel or Lightwright column)?  If I've narrowed a column to nothing, and I post some data to it, will the column expand to be visible?

You can reset your column to default using the external keyboard.  You hold down control and double click anywhere in the column you want to resize.  I'm about to post an advisory about this.  Resizing your columns can affect the speed of the GUI.  This will be addressed in 1.8.  At the moment, we will be advising people to use the default column widths.

    Hope this helps.
