RPU conflict with Unison

The set-up we have is an EOS desk, an RPU, an RVI running on Net 2. We also have Unison to run end of show lighting(audience exit while we work on stage). Recently we began to shut off the system at the end of the night(previously we had just left everything on). The shutdown method is first turning off the EOS desk, then continuing to work on stage then shutting down the RPU and fianlly Unison. I use a work light cue which mimics what is programmed in Unison. The first time I tried to save the cue before turning off the RPU but with Unison already on it killed all the lights. I have since found if I just shut down the RPU without saving the cue Unison holds. I have surmised that when the RPU takes control it takes control of everything. Even overriding Unison. Is this the way it's supposed to work? A secondary problem has to do with the RFR. Often at night after the show we have to focus for the next day's show. If I turn off the EOS desk it the RPU doesn't recognize the RFR. We have the base station plugged into the network not the console. Once again is this how it should be working?

  • Without knowing which is master and which is backup, I am guessing that when you shut down the desk the RPU takes over at a higher priority level, which would then overide Unison levels as well.  There is an option in the shell to disable the backup taking over at a higher priority.

As for the RFR, it is set to link to the master of the two devices, so once you shut down the desk, you may need to redirect the RFR to the RPU.

    From the manual-

    Console Section Mode

Holding down [.] while the remote is booting up will take you to the

console selection list. This mode is used to select between Direct USB

mode, Base USB mode, or available host consoles for networking.

    Hope that helps.

  • Thanks I have located the option for the Back-up to take over at a high priority and turned it off. I'll see tonight if it solves the problem. By the way the console is set as the Master, the RPU as the back-up. Thanks again.

  • Well I tried your suggestion. I had my console in my work light cue and Unison on. I then shut down the console and everything went black. Had to use our emergency button to bring them back. That isn't the solution. I hope someone has another idea. This isn't an impossible situation just an annoying one.

  • Andy, it's probably best to give a call to technical support. They can take a look at how the priorities are set up, etcetera.

  • Andy--Did you happen to change the "Backup takes over at higher priority" in both the Backup and the Master consoles? Call me later if you need.
