Patching gobo wheels for moving lights

The answer to your question is yes.  In patch under attributes of the fixture you can select the gobo wheel and populate it with the gobo that you have in the fixture, or if the gobo is custom, you can select the closet representation of the custom gobo and change the label.  It is just like setting up a custom gel string.  Page 74 in the Ion 1.7 manual shows the key strokes for editing a gel string in attributes.  It is the same concept with the gobo wheel.

Thanks, that's what I've been doing, but wasn't sure how to alter the text to match - I assume it's just the label key? or is there a soft key I haven't noticed?

The text is currently associated with the gobo - there is no way to have a different text label with gobo icons.

I would think that the support for this would happen at the same time that custom bitmap import happens, which I'm reliably informed is not too far in the future.

As a work-around, you could go into the fixture editor and make a copy of the fixture. Edit this copy, and go to the range table for the gobo wheel. If you change the name from "gobo 1" to "Breakup 1", this text will appear in lieu of the wheel icon and text for that position.

Any update on when we will be able to have a user-defined label for custom gobos in a gobo wheel? This came up on the current show as we are trying to leave the programming and showfile "clean" and tidy for a future re-mount.  We have custom gobos in the moving lights and if there's no similar gobo in the board, the wheel slot is now labeled as "generic open".

Making a copy of the fixture and modifying it seems like it would cause problems if you ever had to update the fixture library and there were changes to the original (stock) fixture profile- those wouldn't update in the copied fixture profile.

On another note- no GAM gobos in the library?  Any idea when that (if) will happen?

How do I Change the Label when using a custom gobo?  I keep changing the name of the wheel rather than the individual gobo.

You cannot currently change the names of the gobos in the library.  We ARE adding the ability to import custom artwork.  That is slowly creeping higher on the priority list.  No firm ETA yet.

Hi,

Is there any update on adding custom names to gobos??  I feel like it would be more useful to have the ability to add a custom name than it would be to add a custom image.  Correct me if I am wrong, but the only place you can actually see the image is in the Gobo Wheel Patch, right??  However, the name of the gobo is referenced in several places.  Therefore, it would be more beneficial to have custom names rather than custom images.  Obviously it would be great to have both.

You can also see the gobo image in the virtual ML controls, so having a bitmap import AND text lable would be terrific

A bit of thread necromancy here but I wonder how I can go about adding a gobo to a manufacturer's collection. I'm trying to patch a wheel which uses VL gobos 1004 (UV Night Sky) and 5002 (Real Clouds #2). Each of these is manufactured and used in VL2500s but don't appear in the fixture editor to add them to the wheel (unless they're buried in a sub menu I can't find).

Hi Oovis - at this moment, you can't import images into the gobo library.  Having said that, I did check for these two gobos, which should be included (didn't check against VL documentation - just taking your word for the fact that they are used in the 2500 - :-).
