The Course or Fine is only a positioning adjustment - the fade is always in 16-bit.

How long was the fade?

You may find that you need to use the internal focus timing channel to achieve a smooth fade.

Even using the timing channels, VL1K's can still be quite jerky...

  I was trying to get an almost imperceptable movement.  I tried using one of the stock effects (spiral, I think) and maybe made the scale too small (15)and cycle too long (3 minutes) for that complex of a movement.  I'm just starting the path to becoming friends with these VLs - I will soon work my way up to tinkering with the internal focus timing channel.  Thanks for the suggestion!

  I finally have gotten back to this issue!  Using the internal timing channels did help a bit recently.  The poor lamps had not far to go in a long fade - guess there is just a physical limit to how smooth the movement can be.  Still, the designer left happy and the fade looks good, so I'm happy.  Thanks!

  Thanks for this.  This issue came up again this week, and I did a fade using the internal focus timing instead of the cue timing.  It still is not perfect, but is much better and made the designer happy.  Cheers!
