We have recently installed an ION and are currently struggling to purchase a DVI-D to VGA Adaptor (either double or single) could someone please advise where they purchased one from?
Many Thanks

P.s. One was not supplied with the console, is it suppose to be?

DVI-D does not support analog (VGA) output. DVI-D is strickly a digital interface. Only DVI-I supports both analog and digital monitors.
Ok thank you, so is there somewhere people have found a DVI-I to VGA Adaptor?
Adam, many electronics/computer stores carry DVI-I to VGA adapters or can get them. I suspect you can pick one up at Best Buy.
Just to point out though, the DVI outputs on Ion are DVI-D outputs not DVI-I. There is no simple adapter that will get you VGA output. The only VGA that is supported on an Ion console comes out of the onboard VGA port.
We just went through a similar exercise with our new Element. The upshot is that you will need to get a monitor that uses DVI-D.
Also, not all DVI-D monitors are the same. Check the native resolution carefully. The Element will not support a DVI-D monitor with a resolution less than 1280x1024. (there's nothing in the paperwork that comes with the board to alert you to that restriction, but ETC tells me it's somewhere on the web site).
Fortunately, the store where we bought our first (non-1024 DVI-D) monitor has a liberal return policy...;)
Thank you to everyone who has replied been really helpful - Now I just need to get on the phone to my supplier and moan a little me thinks :-)
Many Thanks

What we heard about this was that in order for ETC to include a VGA compliant video output they would have to increase the cost of the console. The DVI-D output is significantly less expensive to manufacture.
What I would have expected though, was that the DVI-D connectors supplied with the console would NOT have the 4 pin VGA components. There is a type of DVI-D connector configuration that will not except the DVI-VGA adaptor because the 4 pin sockets that surround the spade part of the connector do not exist, so you can't even push the adaptor in. At that point you know something is wrong. Either that or you crush the pins on the adapter. I would suggest that ETC make this change to make it more evident that ION monitors must be DVI-D. That and a big flyer on the console when you receive it that says "DVI Monitors ONLY".
<edit>
Oh, never mind, I know why they don't do that. The concentrated connector that is used to split the signal to 2 monitors is the same as is used on the RVI and that DOES support VGA, so they would have to make 2 versions of that Y cable, and that would be foolish.
