CEM+ dimmer monitoring

Has anyone out there been using the dimmer monitoring through their EOS??

I have everything tweaked the way we'd like it, but even after recording loads on all 3 racks, I'm still getting load errors through the console. The errors are occurring on channels that are at various levels throughout the show.

thoughts?? questions?? comments??? anyone...

Thanks.

  • Hello Nate,

One of the things we at ETC discovered in working with dimmer feedback was indeed that the AF data fed back from the CEM+ was less accurate than desirable. We have been doing a bunch of work on this and will shortly (within the next 1-2 months) be releasing a new version of software for the CEM+ - 3.1.

This software will solve a number of things. It will improve the accuracy of load measurement to within half an amp. As you have been seeing, there are some problems with the algorithm we use for load estimation when the dimmer is not at full that lead to false "load change" errors when none have really happened. This problem will be fixed with 3.1.

We have added the ability to select the amount of load change that you want displayed as an error, in amps, on a per circuit basis, so you can decide if you want a load change error when it changes by half an amp, one amp, five amps, etc.

Out of curiosity, what loads do you have on your circuits? Loads that change (like HID fixtures, moving lights, etc) can be difficult to work with as they change throughout the run life of the load, but tungsten type fixtures should generally be OK.

Anyway, as mentioned all this is coming up in the next month or two, and together with Eos software 1.8 should give you a good experience connecting your console with your dimmers. If you'd like to discuss getting your system upgraded feel free to contact me directly at tom dot steer at etcconnect dot com.
