Renaming a Show File on the ION

Is is possible to rename a show file on the ION? I couldn't find anything in the manual, so I assume that I would have to save to a USB drive and rename on a computer. Is this correct?

  • Rename it and do a Save As in the same location.

The training DVD mentions that there's a LOT of HD space and to not worry about the multiple shows saved under the same name, just with different date and time stamps.  That said, you can exit the Ion console to shell and go to File Management and clean up the clutter, if so desired.

  • Wouldn't renaming the file by re-saving it under a different name change the file's timestamp?

What I'm trying to do is to rename two files to the same name of another group of files. That way, they all appear under the same "tree" as different revisions.

The problem I see with using Save As is that those renamed files will show up as the most recent revisions when they are actually the oldest.

Yes, it's going to put a more recent time stamp on this new named file, then other files with similar names. But why are you "Saving As" an older version in the first place ? - I.E. what use is it to you ?.

But I can't say I'm following what you are trying to do.  Why not create a Show Folder under the main tree and dump all the particular show files in there ?.  The time stamp will show which is most recent regardless of how you name them.

Is the problem that Eos/Ion doesn't let you "Save Over" an existing file, instead saving as a new version - same name, different date/time stamp ?.

Perhaps just going into file management and delete the versions you don't want.

    Maybe some more info needed.

  • I was only using the save as method because it was suggested above. I would really just like to rename the file name without changing the timestamp. My problem is not the retention of multiple file revisions. I think that feature is very useful.

My use for a renaming feature would just be for organization. In my case, a few show files were named under one title, but then I decided to change the name of the subsequent files. However, there is no way to go back and change the name of the older files so that they appear with the newer files while retaining their old timestamps.

A folder for these files would be a possible solution, but I was just looking for a way to give these files all the same name so they appear as if I had named them all under the same name in the first place.

Will a renaming feature be considered for a future software version? Perhaps the [Label] key could be used when viewing the files in the browser.
