Moving Lights Randomly Reset

I have 2 Mac 500's being used in a show that have been randomly reseting themselves throughout the workday and tech.  There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason for the reset: sometimes we're cueing, other times no one is at the console.  I'd think that it was a fixture overheating problem, but I've seen both units reset at exactly the same time.

Here's the setup: Ion (Master), Eos (Client), Net3 RVI, Net3 Touring Gateway with DMX passed through several SeaChangers and Mac 500's powered from 208v SmartSwitch controlled outlet.

If anyone has any ideas I'd love to hear them.  Thanks!

  • Regarding your MAC500's...are the lamps staying struck when this reset happens?

  • No they are not.  We're having to restrike each time they reset.

This indicates to me that you're likely losing power to the units.  It still may be a DMX glitch of some sort, but if so, then it's one that seems to be affecting the SmartSwitches as opposed to or in addition to the DMX going directly into the fixtures.

I'm wondering if somehow the SmartSwitch DMX addresses are being inadvertently patched into the console (in whichever venue) and being triggered on and off that way (or if not the console, then perhaps some other DMX control device).

Is there any architectural system involved? Paradigm? Unison?

How long has this issue been happening? If it's recent...what has changed?

New hardware? Configuration changes somewhere in any part of your system- dimming, architectural, network, control, etc.? First time using the MACs and SeaChangers? Bad storm?

Does the issue happen when you're executing a cue (even if it isn't one that controls these fixtures) or an architectural preset?

  • the MLs get their dmx from the gateways and not the ion directy right? to rule out a network problem do you have in the gateways set the dmx loss behavior to hold last look for 1 minute or so?
  • I'm having sort of the same issues:

    Normal 0 false false false EN-US ZH-TW X-NONE MicrosoftInternetExplorer4

Something  I’m having issues with, is if my console (ETC  Ion) cues are cleared and

I bring up intensity channels of my Elektralite my575.4’s and leave them up and walk away for an

hour or so (with nobody in the room and no changes to anything in the room/system),

when I come back most or all of the fixtures have “timed out”.  It appears to be different

than the hibernate setting on the 575's (which I have turned all off).  Sometimes the bulbs are still struck (or not)

and I have no control over the fixtures from the console.  I can’t pan/tilt, etc.   I have to do

a reset of the fixtures from the console to get them operational again.  Something

similar to this was happening last week when I would do a “Lamp Off” from the console

and leave the room to come back to (or someone in the room calling me) to the fixtures

re-setting as if I’d just turned them on.  Another time last week I did a “Lamp Off” and

when I came back an hour or so later they weren’t functioning even though the fans are

still running on them.  Yet another time I did a "Lamp Off" about an hour later they reset

as if I had just turned them on.  IF I do a “Lamp Off”, I believe (in my past experience) that I should

still be able to operate the fixtures’ other personalities, but with the lamp off.  It’s almost

like “you turned the lamp off, so we’re going to shut down”, even though the fans are still

running.  Could this all be from a profile issue?  I'm baffled.  I have an ION (v1.9), Sensor

    dimming and SmartSwitch Relay panel.
