Things I miss from OII

Go to Cue Clearing the command line. i.e. 496@... Go to the Cue.  On Obsession I didn't have to clear the 496 command.  Or explaining to me what Ch 1 Go to Cue Enter is doing besides plunging me into blackness.

Sneak Cue.  Or how to get a level on only 1 channel that you have changed in blind while a 3:00 minute cue is running.

Independent Channels.  My designer didn't feel like dealing with the scroller as an attribute and just wanted to give percentages like the old days.  But how do I keep them from going out when going to cue out? or rem dim something.

That's what I remember right now, I will have to go over my notes to see if I had anything else, but these are the ones I constantly want to be fixed.

Thanks

  • Eos supports partial go to cue operations, which Obsession didn't.  You can go to cue ML only, conventionals only, moves only, part 2, etc.  Part of that is that also command line based.  1 through 10 Go to Cue 5 is a legal command.  It is a partial cue playback, that drives out other levels on stage previously coming from that cue list.    Channels not owned by that cue list currently on stage from other sources (except manual) are left untouched.   The stage is blacking out because channel 496 is not part of the cue that you asked for.   Having said that, channel 1 go to cue 5 is a legal action.  channel 1 at go to cue 5 should throw an error.  We'll get that fixed.

If you want to pull back part of a cue, but not effect the rest of the stage, you can use recall from.

We are adding recall from sneak to the command syntax extensions.   However, if you've made a change in blind to cue 3 (for example) and want to pull that channel on stage, you can [channel list] [Assert]  [cue 3] [time] [5] [Enter].  If you don't append the time to the instruction, it will use the default assert time from setup.

We didn't implement independent channels because we are really trying to move people toward using the tools in the desk for moving lights.

    Hope that helps.

OK, but as stated elsewhere, sometimes the channels required to be independent are not moving lights or scrollers, but something simple like house lights, that you DON'T want affected by a Blackout or GM.

So am I dumb and missing a tool in the ML section that deals with this ?.

Chuck Kaiser asked this very question back in August here  - http://community.etcconnect.com/forums/p/2712/16535.aspx#16535

  • You can patch a scroller to a channel without an intensity.  To set the scroller level via command line, you can call [channel] {scroller} [@] [/] [/] -- note this expects a dmx value, not a percentage.

To get something like houselights independent, you can put them on a submaster, which can not only be independent, but exclusive, meaning it won't get recorded into cues.  You can park the channel.

When I was doing opera, the programmer would put things like the conductor and stand lights on a sub, even though they were also in the board.  That way they would stay up even in the event of a goto Q or a programming error, unless he had a note that a pit blackout was coming up.

As stated in my post and the posts in the link, channels on subs are not independent of blackout and grandmaster, which is what is being asked.  Thus has nothing to do with movers and scrollers.

And parking a house light channel isn't a particlary useful option for this scenario.

Only real option currently is making an inhibit sub to function as a GM, without the house channel(s).  Kinda silly when all that's being asked is to retain some very basic functionality found in the Obsession, Expression and Express consoles.
