Ion Patch Macros

Trying to write a bunch of macros that will do the following:

Do a proportional patch of zero to a selected group of addresses, in this case dimmers.

I had a whole series of macros written for Express/Emphasis that allowed a quick patch to level zero of a positions dimmers, which was very useful during a focus, using the RFU, for channels assigned to multiple positions, when I am currently only focusing a particular position.  I had a master macro that would restore all my dimmer addresses used in the plot to full.

On Ion, the following keystrokes are what I've attempted:

Learn - Macro XXX - Enter (Learning Macro red text starts flashing as it's in learning mode) - Display - Patch Softkey - Format (To change to Address mode) - Attributes Softkey - XXX thru XXX (as address range) - Proportion - 0 - Enter - Patch Softkey (To restore to normal patch view) - Format (to restore to normal channel as primary patch selection view) - Live - Learn

I would likewise have a "Restore" macro that would patch all stage dimmers back to level full.

This is not recording reliably.  Sometimes it works, sometimes not and baffled as to why.

I've read that using a macro to switch between display screens can be an issue and about how to apply a Wait, but can't find a Wait key on Ion.

I'm also planning on toggling these macro's from the RFR and that too may be an issue, as the RFR doesn't act upon Ion the way an Expression RFU acted on that console.

I would desire to be able to stay in Live mode for focus on the RFR to make use of RemDim, which speeds up the focus, as opposed to having to key in addresses individually in Park.

I would also like to stay away from Parking addresses out via macro's, as there are times when I need to use Park to keep on addresses and units that electricians are working on, while still being able to call up channels for focus.

Any advise from more learned Ion/Eos users is appreciated.

  • OK, figured out something that seems to work, basically giving an Enter key press after ea. selection:

    - Display - Enter

    - Patch - Enter

    - Format - Enter

    - Attributes - Enter

    - XXX - XXX - Enter

    - Proportion zero - Enter

    - Patch - Enter

    - Format - Enter

    - Live - Enter

    It works to restore the proportional patch levels to full as well, though it's well possible some of these Enter commands are superfluous

    But if anyone else has thoughts or hints, chime in.

    Let me introduce you to a function named Park.

    Park allows you to 'lock' a channel, address or attribute at a fixed level indefinitely - until manually Unparked.

    So you can have your Macro Park these addresses (or indeed desk channels), then another to unpark them to restore control.

    Park is available from the RFR itself, so you can in fact Park your channels without the need for a Macro - although Macros are of course very useful if you want to Park/Unpark a large range.

    Thanks for the reply.  As I stated in my OP, I was trying to not use Park. 

    In general, I will patch out a range of addresses, usually all the dimmers for a position.

    I then reset with a master macro that will restore all the patch levels for ALL channels/dimmers used in the system.  I do all the system dimmers (in my case 1-258), as it allows me to re-use the macro, show file to show file, regardless of whether an event uses fewer dimmers and channels or not.

    Thus I'm always accessing all the dimmers.

    Doing this in park can conflict with addresses that might be parked on for a cyc color change as example, and it thus gets confusing for the RFR operator to keep track of what addresses are supposed to stay parked ON, what's OFF, etc... especially if they don't (usually) have a laptop in client mode available to see what's happening in park.  This was the case with Emphasis /Express as well and is why I wrote macro's for patch at level. 

    It does but a burden on the console op (usually me) to remember to restore patched addresses, but it becomes clear in a hurry that stuff's not coming on.

    In any event, my 2nd post seemingly found a solution, just not sure about all the Enter presses being required (or why at all in some cases), as I just know that the macro's currently run correctly.
