Fading between Effects with Different "Grouping" #s

On the current show, I have a row of 5 ColorBlazes all set to the highest resolution, resulting in 60 controllable LED channels in a linear array.

I have created a "rainbow" of color palettes (ROYGBIV), then created an absolute effect with these palettes to create a moving rainbow across the entire groundrow using the standard grouping setting "spread." Now, to create a more segmented rainbow (ie one where there are multiple rainbows moving across) I copied the effect and changed the "Grouping" to 12. I left both effects "Entries" as "Cascade and Fade by Size" and the "Exits" as "Fade by Size."

Now when I put these into two different cues back to back and run the transition, the first effect immediately bumps out and the new effect stutters in. Ideally I would like this to be a smooth crossfade. Am I doing something wrong? Or should I try this effect in a different way? I have played with the "Entry" and "Exit" on the effects with no real luck.

Thanks,

-Nick

  • I have tried something similar in the past.  I believe the reason we see the behavior you describe is due to the fact each channel or parameter can only have one effect controlling it.

When the second effect is triggered, it just takes over (in not the most graceful way possible)

Best suggestion that springs to mind as a work-around would be to program a cuelist which does a simple rainbow and have that loop, and then place an effect ontop of that to get the multi-rainbow.

    Cheers
