Can anyone help me with the proper network settings for my ION so that I may connect to the Capture Polar Visualizer on my MAC?
Thanks
Easiest is to use sACN - make sure that's turned on in the Ion Shell and your channels are patched to ACN.
This is the default, so they probably already are.
On your laptop, make sure the network card IP address is in the same subnet as the Ion - an IP address that will work with the default settings is 10.101.1.xxx
- Choose a number between 101 and 254 for the 'xxx' that isn't being used by another computer.
(Alternatively you could use the DHCP server built into the Ion, but it's not a good idea to turn that on unless you're sure you need it.)
Finally, you'll need to make sure Capture knows which network card to use.
Once you've done that, the sACN universes will appear by magic in the Online Universes bit of Capture, and you can assign them to Capture universes.
If that doesn't work, get in touch with Capture for more advice. They have very good support, so I'm certain they can get you going!
Thanks for the info Richard. I got the program to see the desk output using Net2. Its working great!

It looks like the Ion is transmtting but no universes are showing up in Capture. I tried sACN as well as ARTNET to no avail. I pinged the computer and the console and they are transmitting. Turned off wireless and firewall,I even brought my IT guy over and we worked on it for two hours and still nothing in the external universes. Running windows 7. Uninstalled Capture and reinstalled. Any idea what could be the problem? I've been on every Capture forum, changed the ip addresses but nothing. I can't get those external universes to show up at all!
Could you please describe your configuration and network topology? It would go a long way to troubleshooting your problem if we had some idea how these things are connected, whether a router is involved, version and variant of your operating system (eg. Windows 7 Pro SP1). As Jerry Maguire said, "Help me help you!"
in patch, do those channels have sACN switched on? Patch, select Channel, Interface.
Yes sACN is patched, using Windows 7 and a router. No internet set up to get in the way. I also have my wireless turned off. Thanks
Turning off the Windows firewall does not allow all traffic through. Try adding a firewall exception for capture.exe to allow all traffic.
It is also possible your router is blocking UDP. A Wireshark trace would provide useful clues http://wireshark.org. It would tell you if you are receiving anything.
I did the firewall wall exception, I checked marked public and work boxes. I did the wireshark and it shows ETC is getting through. Thanks for helping by the way I hope to resolve this soon.
Sometimes opening up Captures Tools>Options>Connectivity menu and setting something like Artnet to "Automatic" and then closing and re-opening Capture fixes the connectivity issue.
I've had a couple instances where it was already set to Automatic - but resetting it and rebooting cleared the problem. No idea why....
