Deleting pt2 of a scroller channel moves other stuff

Hello.

Our rig changed quite a lot during the fit-up and some lights which started with scrollers are now just plain units. I was at the desk just now and decided to try deleting channel 21 pt 2 as 21 doesn't have a scroller so it makes sense to have a normal tombstone. When I hit enter I heard scrollers move in the rig and what sounded like a VL1000 focus mechanism move!

I hit 'undo' and went to the rig check cue and found everything still works but why did stuff move when I did the delete? I tried again using a different unit and the same thing happened again.

Eek!

  • As always with a response i apologise if you are certain of the following but i have to ask-

Did you try a rig check before you hit undo? If not then it could have just been unfortunate timing with another external factor. What is generating the DMX for remaining fixtures? Was everything all on the same universe? If no then are you certain that the remaining fixtures are not being fed the old scrollers universe?

What network protocol are you using?  Can you re-produce the problem?

I only ask because as of yet i've not encountered desk generated DMX faults from our EOS's yet and i've deleted/created many parts.

  • Hello again.

Sorry for the delay, not been able to get time to myself to try this again.

It gets more curious now. I deleted Pt2 of one scroller channel and heard many scrollers move.

I ran the rig check and all appeared to be working normally.

I reloaded the show file and ran the dimmers of the lights with scrollers up. I went to Patch and deleted the part again and this time nothing moved! Odd.

  • Digging up a very old thread but..

I've been experiencing something similar as well (have been on and off for years). Several times in the last two weeks, when doing work in patch and making a change, I've heard parts of rig move.

In playing with it yesterday, I was able to make it consistently do the same thing.

Go to a cue which has some NIP's going to their non home position.

    Go to cue 0.

    Go to patch.

    Delete something.

As soon as you hit enter on the delete command, All NIP's go back to Home.

I thought maybe it had to do with refreshing background values, but if you do the same while in a cue, but make a change in blind to the active cue, after deleting the item inpatch the chang made in blind does not end up coming live, so..

This is an Ion running 2.2.0

  • Thanks, I am seeing this too, but it shouldn't be rehoming the parameters that have no other source contributing their level (parameters with gray levels).
