Programming on Nomad At Home

Our youth theater organization is doing a performance in December at an older theater that uses a dimmer system. They have recently upgraded their board to the ETC Ion xe, which I have used before in a different location.

I saved their most recent show file to a USB drive and have opened it in Nomad on my Mac.

I don't have a way to get back in the school theater until our tech week to test it, so is it possible for me to program the entire show from my Mac in Nomad, save the show to my USB drive, and then open the show file from the USB drive once I get to the school again and everything will be correct (as long as all the channel numbers are correct in my programming)?  Will all of the cues, labels, etc. transfer from my Mac to the board correctly?

I don't have the ETC gadget or software key, but I don't need to actually run the show from my Mac, just program the cues before we get into the theater and then I'll use their board.

Thanks so much!

  • yes that's possible. what nneds to match isn't actually the channel numbers but rather the DMX addresses in patch. but all cues, labels and so on will transfer.

also have a look at this support article about the showfile format. if the Xe is on an old software version you will need to save the showfile in an older format on the mac. which is super simple. just mentioning it because this could make it seem like the showfile doesn't transfer.

  • I'm super new to all of this, so I hope this is correct:

In the first universe on the board there's the DMX that's from the older dimmer system plugged in.

Then we'll plug in our wireless DMX receiver/transmitter system into the second universe on the board and patch that in on our first day of tech week. From what I understand, the addresses on the LED DMX lights will matter, since they need multiple addresses per light.

Is that understanding correct? Our plan was to program as much as we could on the first universe before tech week on the Mac and then add in the 2nd universe LED lighting during our tech week. Would that work?
