Setting time on stand-alone Element 2

Setting time by clicking the clock in the top right corner was only introduced in 3.2, so if you're working with an older version you can change the time exclusively in the shell.

Might I be able to upgrade our version? Also, when the manual talks about changing in the shell, it seems to be refering to NTP only.

Ok. I figured out what "in the shell" means... I "exited" the control software and was greeted with six buttons. One of which allowed me to change the time, date, and time zone. Woohoo!  I'm still interested in moving from 3.1.4 to newer software. 

As you have an Element 2 there is no reason no to update the software.  Here is a link to the page where you can get the update: www.etcconnect.com/.../
