Patch: Address Availability Grid

Hi all,

When patching and the AT key has been pressed, when you surf around the universes - pushing 1 shows addresses 1-512, pushing 2 shows addresses 513-1024 (absolute addresses), etc. Is there a toggle for this so that they always display 1-512?

Interesting..... and a good idea. In the same way that you can patch by EDMX address (1 - 32000 and change) or port/offset, the address grid should display the same. So, pressing the [Data] key would toggle to the port/offset view. Will pass along to the team. Forest for the trees..... :)

Anne, correct me if im wrong, but can't you also go @ 2/1 or @ 2/2 for address 513 and 514, when patching.....

Yep, you can patch by both EDMX value or port/offset. If you press the data key, it toggles you between whatever you patch in and the alternative view. We have a DMX map though, which shows you which addresses are in use and which are still available. Right now, that is by EDMX value only.

Yes, that's correct.
Wherever you enter addresses in Eos, you may enter them in port / offset format (2/1), or single number format (513). When you patch a channel to an address, Eos remembers how you specified that particular address and displays it in that format for you everywhere. If you hold the data key down while in the patch display, the addresses are displayed in their alternate format temporarily. To change the way the address is displayed, just repatch the address using the alternate format.

I did use the x/XX format and that works great. Since you already have the grid there I'm just looking for a quick way to see that I have DMX address 430 available on universe 10 and not have to do the math that 5038 is available on universe 10. :-)

Is there a way to change the way it is permanently displayed WITHOUT having to repatch? Some way to tell the desk, "I don't care how it was entered, I just want to see everything in port/offset mode."
I was worried about importing an ASCII file from a Strand 500 series, but I was happy to see that it imported in port/offset format. Too bad all the cue data was completely trashed, but that is for another topic.

Hey Kevin.... what has actually been suggested is to have the default view whatever you patched in. And then there should be a view that is all EDMX and another view that is all port/offset.

Thoughts?

Hi Anne,
Just sat with Kevin discussing this exact issue.
The 'display in the format the data was entered' function is fine... but being an old traditionalist I'd almost always want to see the patch in port/offset format!
So it would be nice to have the option to select this view and work in it until I deliberately opted to do something different. I'm sure there are EDMX guys who would feel the same way (but opposite, if you know what I mean!) Being able to 'DATA' to the other format is kinda nice though.
Any thoughts about supporting the port-letter/offset format (for example 'C.509' as universe/port 3 address 509) - I tend to get this quite a lot from production electricians who've generated paperwork using WYSIWYG (I think).
By the way, we really like the idea that the address grid on the CIA should track the universe in which we're currently working. Its such a handy function, but its made less useful by the fact I have to manually select the universe to view.
And we'd definitely like the CIA address grid to track the current address format (i.e. EDMX or port/offset) if and when that's implemented.

Let's see ... a number of thoughts here. I think there should be three modes for the way the address information is displayed..... whatever you patched in, all EDMX and all port/offset. Again, if we make the data key a latching key, then, once you've patched, you just select the display you want by default.

We have discussed the c.509 idea. We deliberately started with patch as simple as we could make it.... to make it fast as easy.
